Abstract

Purpose - This study examines how product disclosure and perceived risk shape repurchase intention in second-hand luxury fashion and tests whether perceived risk mediates the relationship between disclosure and repurchase intention in Bali, Indonesia.

Methodology/approach - A quantitative associative design was used with 150 repeat purchasers from Central Denpasar, Canggu, and Kuta selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using a five-point Likert questionnaire and analysed with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM).

Findings - Product disclosure had a positive and significant relationship with repurchase intention (β = 0.212, p = 0.002), while perceived risk had a stronger negative relationship (β = -0.513, p < 0.001). Perceived risk partially mediated the relationship, with an indirect effect of 0.214 (p < 0.001; 95% CI [0.145, 0.305]). The model explained 39.9% of the variance in repurchase intention.

Conclusion - Repeat purchasing in this market depends strongly on reducing uncertainty about condition, authenticity, and value. Transparent product information supports retention directly and indirectly by lowering perceived risk.

Novelty/value - The study extends evidence on second-hand luxury consumption to an emerging-market setting and clarifies the risk-reduction mechanism through which disclosure contributes to consumer retention.
